Police in the US state of Tennessee have arrested a 17-year-old boy in connection with the murder of a young girl who disappeared last month and whose remains were found on a busy road in Middle Tennessee on July 3.

Hendersonville police have arrested the 17-year-old Westmoreland, Tennessee, boy who is currently being held in the Sumner County Detention Center, police said in a news release Saturday. Police charged him with first-degree murder in the death of Trinity Bostic.

Bostic, 17, was reported missing in nearby Macon County on June 29. Her remains were found in Hendersonville on July 3 by a Tennessee Department of Transportation contractor. The worker found her body while picking up trash on the side of the road in a wooded area near Vietnam Veterans Boulevard and New Shackle Island Road, police said.

Police have said they suspect a foul play in the ongoing investigation. The death investigation is “essentially a homicide investigation,” Sergeant Nicholas Edwards told USA TODAY on Friday. The department did not release any further information about the arrest.
