Robbie Price shows how it’s done in front of a packed Skagit Speedway stadium on the night of the fireworks

In front of a full house, Robbie Price celebrated his first victory of the year on Saturday evening at the Skagit Speedway. With support from Les Schwab and a subsequent fireworks display, it was Price, Jeff Westergard and Colin Sims who won the main races.

Price and Colton Heath started the main race on the front row, and after trading maneuvers and racing lines several times over the first two laps, Robbie found the bite to pull away and build a strong lead. Heath settled into second place and spent most of the race trying to prevent Price from passing him in traffic—Robbie had just finished in 11th place when a caution period on lap 24 forced the field together. Heath had halved Robbie’s lead just before the caution period, but chaos broke out from second place on the ensuing restart as Jesse Schlotfeldt and Jason Solwold made monster restarts that put them on the podium. No one could catch Price, who rolled on to win the main races ahead of Schlotfeldt and Solwold. Trey Starks set the fastest time. Heats were won by Chase Goetz, Garen Linder, Schlotfeldt and Cam Smith.

Jeff Westergard won his first Skagit Aggregates Modifieds feature race at Skagit Speedway. Westergard took the lead from Brent Morris on lap 12 to win his first feature race of the season at his home track. Alan Grimbly finished second and Ben Gunderson third. Grimbly and Gunderson teamed with Austin Smith to win the heats.

In the Hornet class, Colin Sims held off a strong charge from Steve Peters to win the A feature. Peters tried every line imaginable, but Sims had the right defensive move on every attempt to stay ahead and win the race. Peters and Brian Michelson rounded out the podium. Michelson set the fastest time, while heat wins went to Howard Vos and Tazio Andreasson.
