Live updates: Hurricane Beryl track, forecast, warnings in Houston and other Texas cities

Fort Bend County will close all county offices Monday to prepare for the impact of Tropical Storm Beryl in the greater Houston area, County Judge KP George said.

The offices will open on Tuesday “for normal business operations,” George said.

The county is preparing for tropical storm force winds, flash flooding, power outages, possible tornadoes and road closures as Tropical Storm Beryl is expected to strengthen into a Category 1 hurricane.

“We are expecting a Category 1 hurricane, but are preparing for a Category 2,” George said.

The county is expected to see between 8 and 10 inches of rain starting Sunday evening and continuing through Monday morning, said Greg Babst, Fort Bend’s emergency management director. Isolated areas of the county could see up to 15 inches of rain.

According to Jeff Janecek, first assistant engineer for the Fort Bend Drainage District, the Brazos River, San Bernardo River and Parker Reservoir are used to drain stormwater from Beryl.

According to Fort Bend County Sheriff Eric Fagan, flood vehicles and rescue boats were also mobilized.

Storm shelters will also be opened as needed after Beryl passes through the area, Babst said. The shelters will include cooling centers as high temperatures are expected in the Fort Bend area.
