Logan Webb believes the San Francisco Giants are “getting closer to their full potential”

The San Francisco Giants have won their last 10 games 7-3 and appear to finally be bouncing back after one of the worst starts in franchise history. Expectations were high entering the season, and rightly so after the offseason the front office had set up, but injuries and poor play caused the Giants to run into trouble in ways no one expected.

With reinforcements coming off the injury list in the foreseeable future, there’s a good chance fans will start to realize how good this team could really be.

In fact, superstar right-hander Logan Webb knows what this team can do. He told Andrew Baggarly of The athlete how excited he is about the potential of this ball club.

“Sure, I’m excited,” Webb said. “I think we’re starting to reach our full potential. That’s what we envisioned from the beginning. I’m just excited that there’s so much special talent on this team.”

Without Webb’s performance this year, San Francisco would be in a much worse position. Instead, the California native has helped keep the Giants afloat, as the Giants are just 3.0 games away from the third Wild Card spot.

Much of the excitement is surrounding the return of Blake Snell. Although he has been one of the worst pitchers in baseball in his six starts, it’s difficult to judge the left-hander. He’s been battling injuries, missing Spring Training and other family matters.

Still, his 9.51 ERA and 1.94 WHIP were inexcusable and he needs to get better for San Francisco to be the team they want to be. He is a strong competitor and has understood that his pitching performance was unacceptable.

In a recent rehab outing, he recorded nine strikeouts in five hitless innings, a very promising sign given his impending return.

Manager Bob Melvin talked about what his return would mean for the team.

“It’s very exciting,” Melvin said of Snell. “Look, I’ve seen it firsthand. When he’s throwing well, it’s really good and it’s a day to look forward to. … He’s here for a reason and it feels like the first time we’re getting him back is when he’s really in good shape.”

Melvin is talking about the 2023 Snell, who posted a 2.25 ERA and a 1.19 ERA. Just one year later, that’s definitely still in the mix.

Hopefully that will be the case if the Giants get him back soon.
