Heat warning extended again due to dangerously high temperatures

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A National Weather Service heat warning for much of Oregon and southwest Washington has been extended – again – for next week.

The heat warning, which came into effect at 12pm on Thursday 4 July, is now scheduled to end at 10pm on Tuesday 9 July. according to the National Weather Service on Friday afternoon. The heat warning was originally supposed to end on Sunday, but was then extended on Thursday until Monday evening.


Triple-digit temperatures are forecast at least until Tuesday.

“This heat wave has continued,” said KOIN 6 chief meteorologist Natasha Stenbock.

In the meantime A “Red Flag” warning is now also in effect for large parts of Central Oregon. starting at 4 p.m. Friday with winds of 10 to 20 mph and gusts up to 25 mph and a relative humidity of just 13%, according to the NWS Portland office.

Officials warn that an extreme heat warning could cause a significant increase in heat-related illnesses. They urge residents to drink plenty of fluids and use air-conditioned spaces, avoid the sun and check on relatives and neighbors.

If you must go outside, limit your activities to the early morning or evening and wear light, loose clothing. And remember sunscreen and water.
