RSPCA calls on three cats to find a new home after months of waiting

A SPECIAL appeal has been launched to find a “loving” home for three neglected cats who have been waiting for adoption for more than 270 days.

The RSPCA places thousands of cats into new homes every year, but sadly three poor cats at the Warrington, Halton & St Helens Animal Centre were overlooked by potential adopters for months.

Now the Warrington Animal Centre is launching a special appeal to find a home for the trio – Maggie, Shadow and Tom – who have waited a total of 273 days to start a new life in a loving home.

Maggie is a two-and-a-half-year-old black domestic cat with short fur. She came into the care of the facility in February 2024 after she was found in need of care in a garden with two other cats.

She was severely underweight and appeared to be suffering from hair loss.

While in the care of the RSPCA, Maggie has recovered, but despite her gentle nature, she has now been waiting for over 126 days to be chosen by adoptive parents.

She is currently in a lovely foster home where she is very popular as she loves to be pampered and seems to enjoy being around people. However, she is also an independent lady who likes to do her own thing sometimes.

The shelter felt that she would be best suited to a quiet family, possibly with older children, as she has a calm nature and would make an excellent companion for someone looking for company or wanting to come home to a friendly face at the end of the day.

Gentle, easy-going Tom, on the other hand, loves being around people and would make a great companion or addition to a family. He would be perfect for coming home to a friendly face at the end of the day.

Unfortunately, the six-year-old black house cat has been waiting for a new home for 64 days. Tom enjoys playing, exploring a safe garden and could live with a family.

And last but not least, Shadow, who quickly recovered from a tail injury sustained by a bite from another cat after coming into the charity’s care in April.

Since then, the four-year-old cat has spent some time in a foster home, where she has come out of her shell and is happy to meet people and nudge them with her head, inviting them to keep her company for a bit.

She has been waiting to be adopted for 83 days, even though she is a very talkative cat who loves to fall asleep on your lap.

Commenting on the special appeal, Susanne Fearnley, Animal Care Support Manager at RSPCA Warrington, Halton and St Helens branch, said: “Every day we see rescued animals in our care recover and we get to know their personalities.

“The icing on the cake is when we see them chosen by a new person or family and adopted into the loving home they deserve. So it saddens us that Maggie, Tom and Shadow are still sitting there waiting for their forever home.

“We fear that these cats are overlooked because of their colour as unfortunately it takes longer for black cats to find new homes than others. This is a real shame as each animal has its own personality and a lot of love and affection to give. We see people come to our centre, pet Maggie, Tom and Shadow but then move on.

“These cats are all still to be selected, but we hope they won’t have to wait too long before they are adopted and have a nice, comfy sofa in a new home to call their own.”
