How long can you be a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader?

We ate America’s favorites: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaderswe have old episodes of Form the teamand now we have entered the phase of our deep dive where … we have questions! In particular about the DCC ~retirement~ rules and whether cheerleaders Strictly speaking have to leave the squad after five years.

Turns out, no! Although it’s pretty common to retire after five years, members of the DCC can still audition if they want. Former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader Kat Puryear confirmed this on TikTok, responding to a fan who asked if poor pay was one of the reasons people left the team after five years.

“It’s not the salary,” she said. “I think everyone’s different, right? Well, I left because my hips are completely messed up, baby. I can’t even walk up stairs properly, OK? That’s just the way I am. Also, I was on the team for four years, I had a great personality and by my fourth year I knew I had accomplished everything I wanted to. I was a leader, I was in the show group, I did all the things you want to do at DCC. My hips couldn’t take it anymore, I was like, ‘Wow, I feel accomplished, I feel good,’ so after four years I’m kind of like, I’m good, I’m done, I’ve accomplished everything I wanted to accomplish in my twenties. Now let me walk out of here so the next girl can come in.”

Kat added that other DCC members are returning for a sixth year – including one of her friends who “hasn’t achieved everything she wants to achieve. She wants to be the first leader, she wants to do more, she wants to keep performing. Her body allows that, so she can do that too. So it’s all a matter of personal preference.”

As for the five-year norm, Kat explained that it’s “kind of the maximum we allow ourselves because we can’t go on like this forever and ever. But it’s kind of like an unwritten rule for ourselves.”

Got it!!!!
