4 simple tricks to keep your hair tuck look in place all day

By now, we’ve probably all come across the hair-pinching trick: simply pushing your hair behind your ear so it doesn’t get in the way.

Most of us have done it subconsciously to get rid of stray hairs from the face, but many of us have also done it for fashion reasons, because slicked-back, shiny hair is a whole move. Smoothing those sides adds elegance and an extra stylish detail to loose hair—just like rolling up a shirt sleeve or carefully tucking a shirt into jeans (it’s a whole art form).

It’s a trick that celebrities and influencers have been using for years and – as a bonus – it can also help show off stunning earrings.

But it turns out that if you really want the hairstyle to last, there’s more to it than just tucking your hair behind your ears. In fact, a recent hair tuck hack posted on TikTok has garnered over 7.6 million views and more than half a million likes after its creator, Sabrina Anne, showed viewers how to secure the thing in place.

The braid hack

@sabrinaannesocials has been diagnosed with a “chronic habit of tucking my hair behind my ears” 😣😂 #hairtricks #hairtutorial #hairstyleswithoutheat ♬ Birds of a feather flock together – 𝖒𝖊𝖌𝖆 𝖊𝖆𝖗𝖙𝖍𝖑𝖎𝖓𝖌

“For all the girls who tuck their hair behind their ears… this hair trick is a real game changer,” Sabrina wrote over the opening clip of her video. She showed off how she parts the front face-framing section of her hair that she would normally tuck behind her ears and moves it away from the rest of her hair. She then braids it from about her temple to the tips before securing both braids under her chin with an elastic band. She parts the top half of her hair into a ponytail on the top of her head and then pulls the braids over the top. Once she releases the ponytail, the braids are covered and only a small portion of the braid is visible as an added little detail that has people in the comments comparing to Lauren Conrad’s iconic headband braid from the 00s.

The Loop Hack

I wanted to leave mine lower for a more subtle look ✨ TAG someone who would like this and don’t forget to save to check it out again while getting ready! • #hairstyles #hairideas #beautytips #beauty #today’slook #ootd #glamour #tutorials #hairtransformation #grwm #style #hairstyle #hairtutorials #foryourpage ♬ The motto – Tiësto & Ava Max

For shorter lengths and a flatter finish, influencer Lina Noory shows how she separates the front section, then takes a bottom section directly behind it and ties it into a ponytail. She flips the ponytail over the elastic and back to form a loop. She then tucks the front section through the loop and pulls the bottom ponytail tight to secure the front section back and in place.

The ponytail hack

Celebrity hairstylist Justine Marjan (whose clients include Khloe Kardashian, Ashley Graham and Ella Balinska) told her followers on Instagram, “(This is) the easiest red carpet styling #hairhack.” Essentially, she created a simplified version of Sabrina’s braiding trick by simply pulling the front sections forward, tying the rest of her hair up and out of the way, then pinning both front sections behind her head into a ponytail, securing it with a thick hair tie before leaving the rest of her hair down.

The hair glue hack

Finally, Lina revealed another trick for gluing hair (which is very similar to the one above), but in which she also used a hair pin to glue the front sections on super flat and cleanly.

Just like “no makeup, makeup” and perfectly pinning your shirt up actually require a little extra effort to look effortless, pinning your hair up has its own hidden formula for elevating a simple hairstyle.
