The Brewers will have two All-Star starters for the first time since 2014, as William Contreras and Christian Yelich were both selected after two rounds of voting.
Contreras beat JT Realmuto for catcher with 63% of the vote, while Yelich led all NL outfielders in the final round with 22% of the vote, beating Jurickson Profar (20%), Fernando Tatis Jr. (16%), Teoscar Hernandez (15%), Brandon Marsh (14%) and Nick Castellanos (13%).
Contreras has been in MVP form for most of the season, hitting .292/.353/.445 (124 OPS+) with 10 home runs, 51 RBIs, 59 runs and five steals in 83 games. Yelich himself looks like his former MVP self, hitting .329/.403/.500 (154 OPS+) with eight home runs, 36 RBIs, 36 runs and 19 steals in 60 games.
In other news, Brice Turang has gotten off to a good start and stayed that way, fulfilling manager Pat Murphy’s preseason “quantum leap” prediction as he adds to his already strong defense with a batting average of .287/.351/.412 (115 OPS+), along with six home runs, 38 RBIs, 41 runs and 28 steals.
