Hello Wednesday. Gretchen Parsons here to inform you.

Good morning. A southeast Boise pizza place is closing again. Plus, it’s Idaho’s birthday. Can you ace this Idaho quiz?

  • Today: 86°☀️ Clear skies with gusts of wind in the afternoon.

First today

You asked: When will the “Don’t Tread On Me” license plates be available?

We clear up some confusion about Idaho’s new “Don’t Tread On Me” license plate.

We told our readers earlier this week that the new license plate is available thanks to the recently passed Senate Bill 1317. Although the law went into effect on Monday, July 1, the bill’s sponsor, Senator Tammy Nichols (R-Middleton), told BoiseDev that it won’t be available to order until January 2025.

“It takes time to finalize the design and manufacturing of the license plate and to inform the public and DMVs, but none of this can be done until the law actually goes into effect,” Nichols said by email.

Nichols says the “Don’t Tread On Me” sign in Idaho will be similar to Virginia’s. It will be yellow and have the state name at the top, the coiled snake in the middle and the slogan at the bottom.

The slogan dates back to 1775, when the Gadsden Flag was created. There have been various interpretations of the flag that have changed over time, but today it typically represents libertarian views or opposition to perceived government overreach to those who fly it.

Once Idaho’s new license plate is available, the fees collected will benefit an existing gun safety education program.

LuLu’s closes again

A pizzeria in East Boise that was struggling to survive is now closed for good.

LuLu’s Fine Pizza & Sushi on Apple Street is no longer there.

As BoiseDev previously reported, LuLu’s reopened under new ownership last October after closing earlier this summer because the location was attracting little customer traffic. The owner announced the closure on social media earlier this week.

“We would like to express our deepest gratitude to our loyal customers who have supported us,” LuLu wrote. “Your support has meant the world to us.”

The flagship location on Bogus Basin Road is still open.

Happy 134th birthday, Idaho. Can you pass our quiz?

On July 3, Idaho celebrates its 134th anniversary.

We love Idaho trivia, so we’ve delved into an updated ten-question quiz. See how many questions you can answer correctly (some questions have a higher point value). Take the quiz!
