Karen Reedthe woman accused of murdering her boyfriend, a Boston police officer John O’Keefewas seen cuddling with her married lawyer, Alan Jacksonoutside an upscale steakhouse during jury deliberations last week, days before the case was declared a mistrial, the New York Post reported on Wednesday (July 3).
An iPhone live photo shows Jackson putting his arms around a smiling 44-year-old Reed, one arm around her midsection and the other around her chest, outside Smith & Wollensky in downtown Boston on June 27.
“I was having dinner with my wife and happened to look out and see her outside. It looked wrong and inappropriate, so I just grabbed the nearest phone and took a photo,” said the photographer, who posted the photo on condition of anonymity via the post. “It was just her lawyer, I don’t know what you would call it. It looked inappropriate for an attorney-client situation.”
The photo was re-shared by the X account for Masshole Mediaoperated by Kate Petera journalist who has been vocal in her belief that Read is guilty of O’Keefe’s murder. The police officer was found dead in a snowbank in Canton, Massachusetts, in January 2022.
Prosecutors accuse Read of fatally hitting O’Keefe with her Lexus SUV and leaving him to die after a night of drinking in freezing winter temperatures. Jackson, a former Los Angeles prosecutor who previously represented several high-profile clients, including disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein and actor Kevin Spacey married to the Deputy District Attorney of Los Angeles County Lisa Kassabian since 2011.
Read’s case ended in a mistrial on Monday (July 2) after the jury failed to reach a unanimous decision after more than 26 hours of deliberations. An update on the status of the case is scheduled for July 22, though it is unclear whether Norfolk County prosecutors will seek to retry Read.
