Most adults in the Mobile area have attended college for at least some time, but in one city there are far more people who have persevered and earned advanced degrees.

According to the U.S. Census, Fairhope is the most educated city in the Mobile and Baldwin County area. About 39% of Fairhope adults over the age of 25 have an associate’s or bachelor’s degree. And a quarter of Fairhope adults have earned an advanced degree.

Spanish Fort follows closely behind. Only 37% of Baldwin County residents have an associate’s or bachelor’s degree and 20% have a postgraduate degree.

These rates, especially for advanced degrees, are far higher than the average for neighboring cities. In Bay Area cities with 10,000 or more residents, just under a third of adults have an associate’s or bachelor’s degree, and only 13% have a postgraduate degree. Another 20% have some college education, meaning most adults in these cities have taken at least some college courses.

And cities in Baldwin and Mobile counties tend to be more educated than the rest of the state. Across Alabama, 27% of adults have a bachelor’s degree and only 11% have an advanced degree.
