Suspect charged with murder of woman found wrapped in sleeping bag on Kips Bay Street

NEW YORK — The defendant is accused Hiding the body of a woman found dead in New York’s Kips Bay neighborhood has now been charged with murder.

Chad Irish, 55, is accused of killing 31-year-old Yazmeen Williams, who was found dead Friday. Her body was wrapped in a sleeping bag and hidden in a garbage bag on 27th Street between Second and Third Avenues. Police say Williams was shot in the head.

The motive for the shooting is currently unclear.

Irish was arrested Monday afternoon and initially charged with concealing a human corpse. Surveillance video allegedly shows Irish in a motorized wheelchair pulling what appears to be the same garbage bag that Williams’ body was found in down the street.

Neighbors told CBS New York that Williams had been living with Irish before her disappearance.

Irish was also charged with possession of a weapon and menacing after allegedly threatening a neighbor with a gun during an argument.

Police sources tell CBS New York that Irish has been arrested nearly two dozen times, most of them for drug possession. Sources say Irish has served two prison sentences in the Bronx for robbery and assault and was out on parole at the time of his arrest.

Williams was an aspiring lawyer about to start a new job with the city’s Department of Housing and Preservation. Her family described her as an energetic and caring sister to her twin brother and younger sister.
