According to ABC affiliate WATE and a GoFundMe campaign organized by a cousin, the family members involved in the incident are father Chip Montague, three-year-old Maximus Montague, two-year-old Hendrix Montague and one-year-old Oakley Montague, who died in the fire.

Rocky Top Police Chief John Thomas told local radio station OakRidger that the 911 call about a vehicle fire came in at 12:41 p.m. local time.

“It happened right in front of the gas station and the gas station owner came running with a fire extinguisher,” Roth told WATE. “Chip was able to get Hendrix out first and then Maximus, but he couldn’t get to Oakley.”

NBC affiliate WBIR confirmed Roth’s recollection. A witness told the news agency that two explosions occurred as a result of the fire. The same witness also said that they grabbed a fire extinguisher and ran to the car to help the occupants escape.

According to GoFundMe, “Chip, the boy’s father, has third-degree burns on both hands and arms, as well as the side of his face. Maximus is now in intensive care and is on breathing tubes. He has burns from the soles of his feet to his head. Hendrix has severe third-degree burns on one side of his body and is being treated in a burn unit.”

Campaign organizer Kayla Hann also noted, “As we come together as a family to navigate life after this tragedy, bills and funeral expenses should be the least of my aunt and her husband’s worries. Any amount helps and prayers are always appreciated.”

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation told WBIR that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
